-cemetery/memorial for Covid-19 -
2022
Advised by Min Yeo
The project offers a place of burial for Covid-19 victims as well as a place for the living and future generations to spatially experience and remember the tragedy of Covid-19.
The design proposes a landscape defined by a repetition of gravestones that draws upon the collectiveness and massiveness of deaths. The site is vertically divided into different elevation zones, and gravestones are positioned along contours. In each zone, gravestones are top-aligned and their heights shift depending on their spot elevation. Together, the tops of the gravestones collectively form a series of flat, ghostly planes that invite descent and immersion. The stone grave markers function as a datum, or constant, in contrast to the ephemerality and seasonality of the landscape, that taken all together, creates a hypnotic, surreal, and introspective experience for mourners and observers alike.
