Feet in Cathedral
August 2025
The most elegant feet in San Francisco stand at St. Mary’s Cathedral.
They rise like the hooves of some great mammal.

Above them, a saddle roof unfolds —
a shell of interlocking triangles.
It recalls another St. Mary in Tokyo — Tange’s masterpiece.

Huge and twisted,
with warped rectangular and triangular planes.
The cross-sections shift:
hexagon, octagon, then back to hexagon.
