-materiality of oak tree-
2021
Advised by Matthew Girard
To enrich the underfoot and visual experience of oak trees, this project transforms the courtyard into Acorn Pond, where people discover and embrace oak trees.
Acorn Pond, with three oak trees in the center, has a simple oval-shaped landform that collects acorns. A kidney-shaped wooden pathway has diverse widths, wood sizes and patterns, providing a range of bodily experiences with the oak trees and acorns for those moving along the path.
The entry to this central area is through the three gravel paths. They are enclosed by herbaceous species and cedar trees. The oak trees are obscured from the entry paths to intensify the sense of discovery as visitors walk closer to the center.
